RUDIGER RETIRES FROM GERMAN NATIONAL TEAM, CITING INJURIES

MADRID – Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has announced his retirement from the German national team after more than a decade of service.


Rudiger, who has struggled with injuries in the last two seasons, said he would now focus on his club commitments. The defender only helped the team win the Confederation Cup title in 2017, a relatively modest haul compared to Germany's illustrious football history.


The 33-year-old has been a mainstay of the German defence for over 10 years but has faced increasing fitness issues that limited his availability for international duty.


"I have given everything for my country, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear the German colours," Rudiger said in a statement. "Now it's time to focus fully on my club career and help Real Madrid compete for trophies."


Rudiger has won multiple trophies with Real Madrid since joining the Spanish giants.
