POWER MINISTER CALLS FOR GRIDS TO RECEIVE SAME ATTENTION AS FUEL SUPPLIES

DUBAI – Nigeria's Minister of Power, Joseph Tabor, has declared that electricity grids must receive the same strategic attention traditionally accorded to fuel supplies in global energy security plans.


Speaking at the Middle East Energy 2026 Leadership Summit in Dubai, Tabor said a changing global energy landscape had made resilient electricity infrastructure "critical to national and international security."


The Minister, delivering a keynote address at the 50th edition of the summit themed "Energy Security and the Effects of Geopolitics," argued that energy security could no longer be measured by the availability of hydrocarbon resources alone.


"Energy security must encompass the resilience of the entire energy system, including critical mineral supply chains, grid infrastructure, capital, and institutions," Tabor said.


His comments come as Nigeria continues to grapple with persistent power outages and a fragile national grid that has collapsed multiple times in recent years.


The Middle East Energy summit is one of the world's premier energy conferences, attracting industry leaders from around the globe.
