Navy Uncovers Illegal Refineries, Recovers 99,000 Litres of Suspected Stolen Crude

YENAGOA – The Nigerian Navy has dealt a significant blow to crude oil thieves, uncovering three suspected illegal refinery sites and recovering approximately 99,000 litres of products believed to be stolen crude oil and illegally refined diesel in Rivers and Delta states.


Naval Director of Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsha, disclosed that the operations, conducted on August 31 by Nigerian Navy Ships Soro and Delta, followed credible intelligence on suspected illegal petroleum activities.


The operation led to the discovery of six reservoirs, a large refining oven, storage facilities, and dugout reservoirs allegedly used for storing and processing stolen crude oil.


"This operation represents a significant disruption to networks involved in crude oil theft and illegal refining, particularly by destroying the infrastructure required to sustain the illicit trade," Captain Folorunsha stated.


He confirmed that recovered products and identified facilities were handled in accordance with established procedures.


The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against crude oil theft and illegal refineries across the Niger Delta region, as Nigeria continues to battle significant losses from oil theft.
