Uzodimma Hailed as "Worker-Friendly" Even as Commission Disciplines Staff

IMO STATE – Governor Hope Uzodimma is being praised for his pro-worker policies, even as his administration’s commission cracks down on the very staff benefiting from those policies.


The monitoring team’s tour, which included stops at the Isiala Mbano council, served as a reminder that benefits come with responsibilities. Commission Chairman Dr. Obinatu described the Governor as "worker-friendly," citing a long list of achievements: the prompt payment of salaries, the conversion of qualified staff, and the clearance of stagnation that had seen some workers stuck at the same grade level for up to 17 years.


He also pointed to the upward review of the minimum wage as evidence of the administration's goodwill. However, in a direct address to the workers, he urged them to "reciprocate this gesture with greater commitment to duty."


The juxtaposition was clear: the government is investing heavily in the workforce, but it expects a return on that investment in the form of punctuality and professionalism. Chief Lucky Abaronye, the North Council chairman, supported the commission's proactive approach, even appealing for more staff, urging them to approve the employment of young junior clerks to support the system.
