Edo Queens Win Women's Football Champions League Qualifier as Falconettes Begin World Cup Campaign

Edo Queens of Nigeria have won the 2026 Women's World Football Champions League qualifier after defeating Ampem Darkoa of Ghana 3-2 in the final played in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.


Before reaching the final, Edo Queens thrashed Asgard National of Niger Republic 7-0 and defeated Assek Mmosa Ladies 3-1. The team lost to Ampem Darkoa 2-1 in the group stage and whitewashed Yusufa Ladies of Burkina Faso 5-1 in the semi-finals.


Meanwhile, Nigeria's Under-20 women's team, the Falconettes, are set to begin their FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup campaign in Poland this Monday, September 7, against Spain.


In CAF Champions League action, Rivers United forced FC San Pedro of Côte d'Ivoire to a 1-1 draw in the first leg preliminary round clash in Côte d'Ivoire on Saturday.


In the CAF Confederation Cup, 3SC of Ibadan marked its historic return to continental football with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Tunisian powerhouse CS Sfaxien at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.
