BRAZILIAN ACTIVIST DEMANDS RELEASE OF TUNISIAN COLLEAGUES DETAINED FOR GAZA AID MISSION

RIO DE JANEIRO – A Brazilian activist has demanded the immediate release of four Tunisian colleagues who were part of the global Samud Flotilla that attempted to break the Israeli blockade in Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid last year.


The activists, who were part of a flotilla of dozens of boats launched in August 2025 carrying life-saving supplies to Gaza, were intercepted by Israel with all on board detained. Four of them were released from Israeli prison and returned to Tunisia in October.


However, fellow activists said Tunisian counterterrorism police arrested the four in February after they announced a new flotilla mission to carry aid to Gaza. They have been held in Tunisia's Monaco prison for more than five months, according to family members and fellow activists.


The Tunisian government has not publicly commented on the situation, and activists are growing increasingly concerned about the welfare of the detainees.


The original flotilla involved activists from multiple countries around the world and was part of ongoing efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza despite Israel's blockade.


International human rights groups have called on Tunisia to release the activists or charge them in accordance with due process.
