Bayelsa Governor Hands Over Rescued São Tomé Fishermen After Eight Days Lost at Sea

Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the state and the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe.
The Governor made this known while formally handing over two fishermen—Pedro Mateos and Isnaik Dafunsika—to the Chargé d'Affaires of the São Tomé Embassy, Carlos Moreno, at his country home in Sampo.
The fishermen had drifted into Nigerian waters and were rescued by local fishermen at Ake in the Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state after spending approximately eight days at sea.
Governor Diri described the rescue as another demonstration of the close ties between the people of Bayelsa and São Tomé, noting that both locations share the Gulf of Guinea and strong maritime connections.
