Access Impact Initiative Launches in Imo State, Empowers Five Women with Sewing Machines

Owerri, Imo State — A new non-governmental organisation, Access Impact Initiative, was formally unveiled in Imo State over the weekend, with its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Adaora Joyce Amurun, pledging to empower women and equip young people across the state through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship support.


The launch, held under the theme "Empowering Women, Equipping Youth, Transforming Communities," drew Government Officials, Traditional and Community Leaders, Security Representatives, and well-wishers who turned out to support the new initiative.


Addressing guests at the event, Amurun described the launch as more than the birth of an organisation, framing it instead as the start of a movement anchored on the idea that people flourish when they are given genuine access — to skills, information, mentorship and opportunity — rather than one-off handouts. She said the initiative's focus areas would include tailoring, makeup artistry, and other vocational and entrepreneurial training designed to help beneficiaries build sustainable livelihoods.


Five people were presented with sewing machines as the programme's first practical intervention, a gesture Amurun said was symbolic of a wider ripple effect: a single opportunity given to one woman, she argued, has the potential to support a family, create jobs for others, and pass skills on to the next beneficiary.


Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was represented at the event by his special assistants on ethics and privileges and on entertainment, who commended Amurun's commitment to the welfare of Imo residents and pledged the state government's continued support for the initiative.


The Imo State Police Command was also represented, alongside a cross-section of political and community figures, including the member representing Ohaji/Egbema in the House of Representatives, Hon. Francis Osuoha (Eze Buguma); former Nwangele APC chairman Hon. Orient Nwadike; a representative of the Citiboys Movement women's wing; and Engr. Amaefule, among other dignitaries who came out in solidarity.


Speaking on behalf of the five people who received sewing machines, one beneficiary identified as Sis. Chizoba thanked God for using Amurun as a channel of blessing, prayed for her continued success, and promised that the beneficiaries would go on to impact the lives of others, in keeping with the initiative's call for each person helped to eventually help someone else.

Organisers say Friday's event marks only the beginning of Access Impact Initiative's work in Imo State, with plans to expand its reach to more women and young people and to build partnerships with government, the private sector, and community stakeholders in the months ahead.
