​International — Tensions in the Korean Peninsula are seeing a surprising pivot as South Korea’s Defence Ministry announced that its annual joint military exercises with the United States will be cut short by six days. The drills, originally planned to conclude on August 27, are now set to end on August 21 following a direct request from Washington.

​The decision comes amidst reports of President Trump’s ongoing push for high-level meetings with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, citing the strength of his personal relationship with the leader. While the move is being framed as part of broader diplomatic efforts, it marks a significant shift in the scale and duration of military cooperation between the two allies.
