Peace Accord Controversy: Omoyele Sowore Criticizes President Tinubu’s Absence

​Abuja — The signing of the National Peace Accord ahead of the 2027 general elections has sparked a heated debate, not because of the agreement itself, but because of who was missing. African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore publicly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for failing to attend the ceremony in person, labeling the absence as a sign that the administration does not treat the "peace path" as a serious matter.

​While the President was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Mr. Sowore argued that the Commander-in-Chief’s personal presence was necessary to give the accord genuine moral backing. He further emphasized that the accord must transcend symbolism, demanding concrete action to curb electoral violence and ensure accountability for violators.
