Nigeria’s Foreign Reserves Hit 17-Year High
Lagos — The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced a record-breaking economic feat: Nigeria’s foreign reserves have surged above $52.5 billion as of July 17, 2026. This marks a 17-year high, comfortably surpassing the Apex Bank’s annual target.
CBN officials attribute this growth to sustained inflows and renewed investor confidence, which have also significantly narrowed the gap between official and bureau de change exchange rates to below 2%. Following months of board reforms aimed at establishing a foundation for economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation, the CBN remains optimistic that these figures signal a robust new phase for the Nigerian economy.
