​Cotonou / Abuja — In a major strategic push for regional stability, Nigeria and the Republic of Benin have agreed to significantly deepen defense cooperation, committing to real-time intelligence sharing to combat cross-border crime, terrorism, and maritime piracy in West Africa.

​The pact was sealed during a three-day working visit to Cotonou by Nigeria's Minister of Defense, General Christopher Musa, who met with Benin's Minister of National Defence, Mr. Gildas Akongan. Both nations reaffirmed their zero-tolerance stance on violent extremism, agreeing to establish seamless intelligence-fusion mechanisms designed to track, intercept, and neutralize transnational criminal networks and insurgent cells before they launch attacks along shared borders.
