Newly Elected NUJ Zone C Vice President, Ezenwa Adiuku, Pledges Better Welfare and Ethical Journalism in Mbaise

AHIARA MBAISE — In an atmosphere brimming with deep emotion and professional solidarity, the newly elected Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone C (South-East), Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku JP, made a passionate homecoming on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Speaking at the Chris VI Hotels in Ahiara Mbaise during a grand reception organized by the Federation of Mbaise Media Professionals (FMMP), Adiuku described the honor as a profound validation from his own roots.

"Receiving this honor from my own people, the Federation of Mbaise Media Professionals, is one recognition I will cherish for a very long time," Adiuku told the gathering of royal fathers, media executives, and distinguished guests. Quoting the age-old maxim, he added, "They say charity begins at home, and every son or daughter values appreciation from their own community above all else."


Reflecting on his emergence to the regional leadership post, Adiuku dedicated the victory to the collective toil of Mbaise journalists, pioneers, and elders who laid the bedrock for the profession. He also extended deep gratitude to NUJ National President Comrade Alhassan Yahya, the National Executive Council, and state councils across the South-East for their unflinching support.

With misinformation and fake news posing severe threats to societal cohesion, Adiuku charged practitioners to hold the line.

PROMOTION OF CREDIBLE REPORTING: As regional Vice President, Adiuku pledged to remain steadfast in championing balanced, factual journalism.

UNION WELFARE AND CAPACITY: He committed to working collaboratively with colleagues to strengthen the union, improve member welfare, and deepen strategic partnerships across the South-East.

MENTORING YOUNG JOURNALISTS: Addressing upcoming reporters, he urged them to embrace continuous learning and guard their personal integrity fiercely, reminding them that "reputation is earned over many years but can be destroyed in a moment".


Shifting focus to the rich cultural backdrop of the event—held as part of the Pre-Iri Ji Mbaise Lecture Series/Awards 2026—Adiuku called upon media professionals to spotlight the region's vast accomplishments in medicine, education, commerce, public service, and the clergy.

As communities prepare for the annual Iri Ji Mbaise festival, he urged stakeholders to anchor development on peace, unity, and youth empowerment.


In a practical appeal directed at the home crowd, Adiuku highlighted an infrastructural need for the union's regional presence. While noting that the official Zonal head office remains in Enugu, he announced plans to site an NUJ Zonal Liaison Office within Imo State.

Acknowledging that the NUJ Imo State Council has graciously provided a temporary office space at its Press Centre in Owerri, Adiuku made an earnest appeal: "I earnestly appeal for assistance from you, my people, to furnish it with necessary equipment."

The reception ended on a high note of communal pride, with leaders and journalists alike rallying behind Adiuku's vision to elevate the standing of Mbaise media practitioners locally, regionally, and nationally.
