NDLEA Intercepts 1.55kg of Cocaine Concealed in Luggage at Lagos Airport

​Lagos — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has thwarted a major smuggling attempt at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. A 48-year-old businessman, Nwankwo Onyebuchi, was apprehended at Terminal 2 while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to New Delhi, India.

​According to NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, 1.550kg of cocaine was discovered factory-fitted into the walls and railings of the suspect’s check-in luggage. Onyebuchi reportedly confessed to investigators that he liquidated his business and personal assets to raise the ₦23 million required to purchase the illicit consignment, which he hoped to sell for a staggering ₦100 million in India.
