​The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by President Akinte Babatunde, heavily criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's recent proposal to restore the fuel subsidy if elected. NANS argued that promising a return to the old subsidy framework without fixing structural vulnerabilities is merely a political response to economic hardship rather than a sustainable economic fix.
