Mbaise Rolls Out Red Carpet for NUJ South-East Vice President, Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku

For the first time since his emergence as Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), South-East (Zone C), veteran journalist Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku, JP, will receive a grand homecoming reception from his kinsmen as media professionals in Mbaise prepare to celebrate one of their own.


The reception, organised by the Federation of Mbaise Media Professionals (FMMP), will be one of the major highlights of the 2026 Pre-Iri Ji Mbaise Lecture Series and Awards, scheduled for Thursday, August 13, at Chris VI Hotel, Ahiara, Mbaise, Imo State.


For members of the media community, the event is more than a celebration of an individual. It is being seen as recognition of Mbaise's growing influence in journalism and a tribute to a media professional whose decades of service have earned him one of the highest positions in the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the South-East.


Organisers said the reception is intended to celebrate Comrade Adiuku's commitment to professional journalism, media development and ethical leadership, describing his elevation to the regional office as a source of pride not only for journalists but for the entire Mbaise nation.


The ceremony will be chaired by the President-General of Ezuruezu Mbaise, Sir Surveyor Joe Anosikeh, while the President of Mbaise Peoples Congress (MPC), Hon. Carl Azudibia, will deliver the keynote address.


In a demonstration of the importance attached to the occasion, traditional rulers from the three Mbaise local government areas are expected to grace the event, alongside government officials, media executives, business leaders, professionals and community stakeholders.


Leading the royal fathers expected at the event are the Chairman of the Aboh Mbaise Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Marcellinus Nwaturuocha; the Chairman of the Ahiazu Mbaise Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Sabinus Nwaneche; the Chairman of the Ezinihitte Mbaise Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Anthony Nwanguma; and the Chairman of the Mbaise Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Mike Ndudiri Orji.


Other prominent traditional rulers expected include HRH Eze (Barr.) Stephen O. Azubuine, Obizie of Obizi Ancient Community; HRH Eze Anthony Emeh, Ubaoha II of Mbutu Nworie Community; and HRH Eze Chidume Okoro, Grand Patron of the Federation of Mbaise Media Professionals.


According to the Planning Committee, chaired by Kennedy Onwunali with Augustine Agwulonu as Secretary, preparations have been completed for what promises to be one of the biggest gatherings of journalists and media stakeholders during this year's Pre-Iri Ji celebrations.


The Chairman of the NUJ Imo State Council, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, JP, will serve as Host, while the President of the Federation of Mbaise Media Professionals, Patrick Mgbaja, will be the Chief Host.


Beyond the reception, the annual FMMP Pre-Iri Ji programme has become a platform for celebrating excellence, strengthening professional networking and stimulating conversations on the role of the media in community development and nation-building.


As anticipation builds, many observers believe the homecoming for Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku will not only honour an accomplished journalist but also inspire a new generation of media practitioners from Mbaise to pursue excellence and leadership within the profession.
