Abuja — In a landmark move to boost the morale and welfare of frontline troops, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a sweeping salary review for the country's military personnel. Announced on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the new wage structure will see officers and soldiers receive between a 30% and 80% increase in their pay, taking effect from September 1, 2026.

According to the presidency, the highest adjustments are targeted at junior military personnel—who will enjoy up to an 80% increase—while senior officers will receive incremental adjustments based on their ranks. The policy is designed to honor the immense sacrifices of personnel deployed in counter-insurgency, anti-banditry, and internal security operations across the nation.
