Legal Battle Looms: Rochas Okorocha Sues INEC Over Imo West Senatorial Candidacy

​Owerri, Imo State — The political landscape in Imo State has been rattled by a fresh lawsuit filed by former Governor Rochas Okorocha against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The dispute centers on the publication of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s name as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Imo West Senatorial District election.

​In the suit filed by his legal counsel, Oje Aboje, Mr. Okorocha is challenging the legitimacy of the APC primaries held on May 18th. Okorocha’s camp alleges that he emerged the winner with 150,780 votes against Governor Uzodimma’s 102,158. The former governor is urging the court to declare INEC’s publication of the Governor's name as "wrongful" and "unconstitutional," citing constitutional provisions regarding dual office-holding and the validity of the primary election results.
