Imo State Government Revokes Rights of Occupancy for Owerri Old Timber Market (Ogboshishi)

​OWERRI, IMO STATE — The Imo State Government has officially revoked all statutory and customary rights of occupancy over the land housing the Old Timber Market, popularly known as Ogboshishi, in Owerri, alongside adjoining properties.

​The official government notice stated that the land acquisition was executed for an "overriding public purpose" in accordance with the Land Use Act, effectively terminating all existing property titles. While state authorities assured that details of the proposed public development project will be announced soon, uncertainty has gripped the area.

​As one of Owerri's busiest commercial hubs, Ogboshishi supports thousands of traders, woodworkers, artisans, and transporters, while generating substantial revenue for the government through shop rentals and levies.
