Owerri, Imo State — The era of civil servants clocking in and vanishing for private business is officially under fire. Dr. Nick Obinato, Chairman of the Imo State Local Government Service Commission, has issued a stern warning to all workers in the unified local government system, declaring that the time for "unearned monthly salaries" has come to an end.
During a monitoring visit to Owerri West Local Government headquarters, Dr. Obinato made it clear: any staff found signing the register only to abandon their post—or signing for absent colleagues—will face immediate disciplinary action. Beyond attendance, the Commission Chairman also sounded the alarm on the poor state of council infrastructure, directing urgent cleanup efforts to restore the dignity of local government secretariats.
