FMMP Pre-Iriji 2026: Mbaise Media Professionals to Celebrate Men and Women Building the Nation

 Beyond the music, ceremony and cultural colour that will accompany this year’s Pre-Iriji Mbaise celebration, the Federation of Mbaise Media Professionals (FMMP) is preparing to place something even more important at the centre of the gathering: recognition of people whose work continues to shape Mbaise and society at large.


The Federation will on Thursday, August 13, 2026, honour a select group of distinguished sons and daughters of Mbaise for their contributions to media development, culture, education, leadership and community advancement.


The event, holding at Chris VI Hotel, Ahiara, Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, will combine the 2026 Pre-Iriji Mbaise Lecture with a special welcome celebration for Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku, the first indigene of Imo State to attain the position of Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone C, South-East.

FROM THE NEWSROOM TO THE COMMUNITY

Among the personalities to be recognised is HRH Eze Reginald Anuoti Amadi, Obo 1 of Obetiti Autonomous Community in Aboh Mbaise and publisher of Lagos Eagle Newspaper.


His recognition highlights an uncommon combination of traditional leadership and media enterprise.


FMMP says Amadi has contributed to youth empowerment and media development by supporting the training and emergence of young Mbaise people in journalism and related fields.


As a traditional ruler, he has equally used his position to advocate peace, unity and sustainable community development.

THE CUSTODIAN OF CULTURE


Also receiving recognition is Ezeji Dr. Kachi Nwoga, former governorship candidate in Imo State and former Chairman of Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area.


Nwoga's nomination brings culture and community development into the spotlight.


As Coordinator of the 2026 Ezeji Mbaise Cultural Festival, he has remained actively involved in efforts to preserve and promote the cultural identity of Mbaise while maintaining strong relationships with media practitioners at state and national levels.


His recognition is therefore not simply about a political past, but about the continuing role of culture, leadership and community engagement in defining the future of Mbaise.

WHEN COMMUNICATION BECOMES GOVERNANCE


Another prominent recipient is Mr. Oguwike Nwachuku, Chief Press Secretary to Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma.


A seasoned journalist, public relations strategist and former General Editor of Daily Independent, Nwachuku represents the increasingly important intersection between journalism, strategic communication and public administration.


His career reflects the power of communication to influence how governments explain policies, respond to public concerns and engage citizens.


According to FMMP, the honourees were selected for their leadership, professional achievements, service to humanity and contributions to the growth of Mbaise.


But beyond the individual awards lies a broader message.


At a time when communities are increasingly concerned about preserving their identity, empowering young people and creating opportunities for development, FMMP's initiative seeks to remind the public that progress is often built quietly by individuals whose contributions may not always make national headlines.


The August 13 gathering is consequently expected to bring together traditional rulers, political leaders, media executives, academics, professionals, community leaders and other stakeholders.


The Chairman of the NUJ Imo State Council, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, JP, is expected to attend as host.


FMMP has invited Mbaise sons and daughters, media practitioners, friends of Mbaise and other stakeholders to participate in the event.


With its blend of intellectual discourse, cultural celebration, recognition of excellence and networking, the programme is expected to provide another platform for conversations about the direction of Mbaise — and the kind of leadership, culture and community spirit required to move the people forward.


At the heart of the celebration is a simple but powerful message: communities do not grow by celebrating success alone; they grow by recognising those who use their success to lift others.
