FMMP Awards: Why These Four Men Are Being Placed Under the Spotlight

At a time when public recognition is often reduced to titles, positions and political influence, the Federation of Mbaise Media Professionals (FMMP) is taking a different route — putting professional excellence, leadership and service to society at the centre of its 2026 Awards of Honour.


The choice of this year's nominees cuts across insurance, medicine, entrepreneurship and public communication, reflecting the broad ways in which Nigerians contribute to the development of their communities and the nation.


Among the personalities selected is Dr. Benedict Ujoatuonu, an accomplished insurance executive and risk-management expert who previously served as Managing Director/CEO of Universal Insurance Plc. Beyond the corporate world, FMMP is also recognising his reputation as a community leader.


The medical profession is represented by Dr. Mark Okhueleigbe, consultant neurosurgeon, founder and Chairman of the Management Board of Mark of Glory Specialist Hospital, Owerri. His nomination brings attention to a profession where expertise can literally mean the difference between life and death.


From the business sector comes High Chief Philip Chukwudi Onyenekwe, a Port Harcourt-based businessman and philanthropist and CEO of Chuks Arthur Dynamics Limited. His recognition highlights the role of enterprise, investment and private-sector initiative in creating economic opportunities.


Then there is Oguwike Nwachuku, Chief Press Secretary to Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma. A former General Editor of Daily Independent, Nwachuku represents another critical dimension of national development — the power of communication in shaping public understanding and governance.


That may be the more important question behind FMMP's selections.

Is it wealth?

Is it political access?

Is it professional status?

Or is it what a person has done with the position and opportunities entrusted to them?


FMMP says its nominees were selected for leadership, professional accomplishment and commitment to community development — criteria that place responsibility above mere prominence.


That distinction is significant in an era when society frequently celebrates people simply because they occupy powerful positions.


The FMMP awards therefore offer an opportunity to ask a deeper question:


Who deserves to be celebrated — the person who has become successful, or the person who has used success to make a difference?


The answers may well shape the significance of the August 13 gathering.


The awards will be presented during the 2026 Pre-Iriji ceremony and grand reception in honour of Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku, JP, Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Zone C (South-East).


The event holds on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Chris VI Hotel, near Eke Ahiara Junction, Mbaise, with journalists, traditional rulers, political leaders, business executives and other stakeholders expected from across the South-East and beyond.


For FMMP, the message appears clear: recognition should not merely celebrate where people have reached, but challenge society to examine what they have contributed along the way.
