​ZURICH, SWITZERLAND — World football governing body FIFA has officially opened disciplinary proceedings against the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and several national team players following chaos at the FIFA World Cup.

​The investigation focuses on a post-match altercation following Argentina’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup final, where players Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina, alongside assistant coach Roberto Ayala, were cited for alleged assault and unsporting behavior.

​Additionally, FIFA is investigating Argentina over a political demonstration after players displayed a controversial "Las Malvinas Son Argentinas" (The Falklands are Argentine) banner following their semi-final victory against England, potentially breaching strict rules against political displays in sports.
