Defying Lawsuits: ANSEC Insists Anambra Local Government Elections Will Hold on August 29

​Awka, Anambra State — The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSEC) has maintained that there is no going back on its schedule to conduct local government elections on August 29, 2026, despite a legal challenge filed by 56 serving councilors.

​Addressing the press, ANSEC Chairman Mrs. Genevieve Osokwe clarified that the mere filing of a lawsuit does not automatically halt an ongoing electoral process, noting that the commission has received no official directive to suspend preparations. She urged political parties to intensify their campaigns, assuring stakeholders that the polls will be conducted transparently and in strict compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.
