Imo State — The ancient Nkwere Kingdom is aglow with color and tradition as preparations reach a fever pitch for the Second Unified New Yam Festival (Iriji Afanor Nkwere 2026), scheduled to hold at the Nkwere Aborigines Civic Centre.

​Authored by the President-General of the Nkwere Aborigines Development Town Union (NADTU), Chief Sir Austin Iwamechi Omekanaya, the festival brings together the four autonomous communities of Nkwere—Onusa, Nnanano, Amanano, and Nnanato—to celebrate ancestral unity, thanksgiving, and communal development. Beyond cultural pageantry, the high-profile event serves as a rallying point for executing landmark community projects and will feature a special chieftaincy conferment honoring Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his developmental strides.
