Cooking Gas Scarcity: NLNG Accuses Marketers of Inflation, Stating Factory Price Stays at ₦900 While Retail Hits ₦2,400

​Lagos — Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has blown the whistle on domestic cooking gas distributors, accusing middle-men and marketers of driving the astronomical surge in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices across retail outlets.

​During a media briefing in Lagos, NLNG Managing Director Adeleye Falade revealed that while the company supplies LPG to buyers at between ₦800 and ₦900 per kilogram (well within regulatory recommendations), consumers are being forced to buy the same product at an exorbitant ₦2,400 per kilogram in the open market. Falade blamed the massive price distortion on hoarding and artificial scarcity created by unscrupulous middlemen, which has forced many struggling households back to unsafe, dirty cooking fuels.
