Alaeniyogwa Residents Revive Abandoned Primary School, Demand Government Teachers

​MBAITOLI, IMO STATE — High Chief Ikechukwu Innocent Onyeji, the former President General of Alaeniyogwa community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, has reaffirmed the town’s commitment to restoring its local primary school, while urging the Imo State Government to urgently address a severe shortage of teachers.

​Speaking with newsmen, High Chief Onyeji revealed that residents have been pooling funds for over a year to clear the overgrown school grounds and maintain a conducive learning environment. Additionally, community leader Ugochukwu Unachukwu (popularly known as Ugo Sly) is currently financing the construction of a brand-new classroom building to revamp the school’s infrastructure.

​However, Onyeji stressed that community self-help has its limits. He asserted that while residents can build structures, the responsibility of employing and deploying qualified teachers lies squarely with the government.

​"We have been here barely one year trying to make this place functional," Onyeji noted. "The community will continue to support the school, but the state government must urgently deploy more teachers to meet growing student enrollment."
