Ahiazu–Ezinihitte 2027: NDP Federal House Candidate Chinedu Anyanwu Calls for Inclusive Politics, Warns Against Power Monopoly

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 General Elections, a Frontline Advocate for Inclusive Governance and National Democratic Party (NDP) Aspirant for the Ahiazu–Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency, Mrs. Chinedu Anyanwu, has called for a new Political Culture anchored on Equity, Competence and equal opportunity.

Speaking during a Television Interview monitored in Owerri, Anyanwu urged Political Stakeholders to abandon entrenched Political Practices that exclude Women and emerging Leaders, warning that Democracy cannot thrive where Power remains concentrated in the hands of a few.

The Educationist and Development Strategist said her years of Political Participation and Public Engagement have exposed deep structural barriers confronting Women and other credible Aspirants seeking elective Office.

According to her, the time has come for Ahiazu–Ezinihitte Mbaise to embrace a new Era of inclusive, transparent and people-centred Leadership.

"We cannot continue recycling the same Political Structures and expect different outcomes. If Governance must truly serve the people, then Leadership must reflect the diversity of the people," she said.

She lamented that despite decades of Advocacy and Nigeria's 35 per cent Affirmative Action Policy, Women's representation in Elective Offices has remained disappointingly low.

According to Anyanwu, the barriers extend beyond Campaign Financing to include weak Political Networks, Entrenched Patronage Systems, Internal Party Resistance, Cultural Stereotypes and the absence of deliberate inclusion Policies.

Drawing from her Experience in the Political Arena, she said many qualified Women are discouraged long before Elections through subtle pressure, political gatekeeping and unfair Candidate selection processes.

She recalled that despite incentives such as reduced nomination fees for female aspirants, very few Women eventually secured Party Tickets, underscoring what she described as the lack of Political Will to implement genuine inclusion.

"This is not about asking for special favours," she said. "It is about creating a level playing field where competence, capacity, integrity and vision—not Gender—determine who leads."

Anyanwu also entered the growing Debate over prolonged occupancy of Elective Offices, cautioning against what she described as the recycling of Political Power.

Without mentioning any individual by name, she argued that while seeking another term may be constitutionally permissible, Democracy flourishes when Leadership Opportunities are broadened to accommodate fresh ideas and wider participation.

"Leadership should be a relay, not a personal possession. Every Constituency deserves Periodic Renewal through fresh perspectives, Innovation and Healthy Competition," she stated.

She warned that prolonged dominance by a few Political Actors could weaken accountability, discourage young people and Women from participating, and diminish public confidence in democratic institutions.

Calling on Political Parties to begin internal reforms ahead of the elections, Anyanwu urged them to institutionalise transparent primaries, expand opportunities for Women and Youths, and promote merit-based leadership.

She also appealed to Voters across Ahiazu–Ezinihitte Mbaise to evaluate Aspirants based on Character, Competence, Credibility and Vision rather than Political Patronage or long-standing Political Influence.

"The future of our Constituency depends on the Choices we make today. Inclusion is not a favour; it is a Democratic necessity. When everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute, Governance becomes stronger, more accountable and more responsive to the people," she said.

Political observers believe her interventions have added a fresh dimension to conversations surrounding the 2027 Elections in Ahiazu–Ezinihitte Mbaise, particularly as Debates intensify over Leadership Renewal, Women's Political Participation and the need for a more inclusive Democratic Process.

As the National Democratic Party (NDP) Aspirant for the House of Representatives, Anyanwu says her Campaign will focus on Accountable Representation, inclusive Governance, Transparent Leadership and Policies that promote sustainable development across the Ahiazu–Ezinihitte Federal Constituency.
