Uzodimma to Honour Imo Students Who Won Gold for Nigeria at International STEM Olympics

Governor Hope Uzodimma has announced plans to honour outstanding Imo students who brought glory to Nigeria after winning multiple gold medals at the International STEM Olympics in Rome, Italy.


The students represented Nigeria after emerging champions at the 2026 South-East STEM Mathematics Olympics, which attracted more than 11,500 participants across the region.


At the global finals, featuring contestants from over 150 countries, Chinedu Bube Onwubiko clinched gold in Mathematics, Don Anele Munachimso won gold in Science, while Ekejiurum Onyedikachi emerged champion in the Primary Mathematics category.


Governor Uzodimma described the achievement as a proud moment for Imo and Nigeria, saying it reflects the enormous intellectual potential of the state's young people.


He said the students would receive official recognition from the state government in appreciation of their outstanding performance and expressed hope that their success would inspire more young people to embrace science, technology and innovation.


Education stakeholders have hailed the feat as proof that Nigerian students can compete with the best globally when given the right support.
