Uzodimma Flags Off Renewed Hope School Feeding Programme, Says Healthy Pupils Learn Better

Governor Hope Uzodimma has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving education, nutrition and the overall wellbeing of pupils with the launch of the Renewed Hope Home-Grown School Feeding Programme across Imo State.


Represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Poverty Alleviation, Chief Kenneth Okafor, the governor said the initiative would ensure that children in public primary schools receive nutritious meals capable of improving their health and academic performance.


According to him, a well-fed child is more likely to attend school regularly, remain attentive in class and perform better academically.


Although the programme is a Federal Government initiative, the governor disclosed that the Imo State Government had earlier funded feeding for pupils across the state's three senatorial zones during the Imo @50 celebration, describing education and child nutrition as critical investments in the future.


Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in Imo State, Lady Salome Aguwamba, said the partnership between the Federal and State Governments would provide balanced, healthy meals for thousands of pupils.


She commended Governor Uzodimma for prioritising children and sustaining policies that directly impact their welfare.


Teachers and pupils who witnessed the flag-off described the programme as timely.


Headteachers Mrs. Evangeline Mgboji and Mrs. Nkiruka Ngwarube expressed gratitude, while one of the beneficiaries, Happiness Amina Abdu, said she was excited that children were being remembered through the initiative.


The programme is expected to strengthen school enrolment, improve attendance and enhance learning outcomes across public primary schools.
