Rotary Club of Owerri Central installs Rtn Callistus Mbaoma as 26th president

   The installation ceremony of Rtn Callistus Mbaoma as the president, Rotary Club of Owerri Central, inauguration of Board of Directors, induction of new members, launching of service projects and award presentation to deserving personalities took place last Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Swiss International Beland Hotel, off PortHarcourt Road by Hospital Junction, Owerri.

  In his address on the occasion after his inauguration, Rtn  Mbaoma identified Rotary as more than an organization, and a global force for good, adding that Rotary has for over a century united business and professional leaders who believe that "Rotary changes us and those we serve", pointing out that rotarians are bound by the simple but powerful ideal of service above self, and they work everyday to create communities where hope thrives.

   According to him, "I was Rotaractor president in 1986. Since then, I have been in active service. It is a Star year where we are expected to bring in our service together in teamwork, do more Action and unfailing, we get great good result. Leadership is not about authority but about service, collaboration and inspiring others to achieve to achieve a shared vision. Rotarians should ask themselves if they are creating impact. With unity, we can achieve a lot in one year".

   Rtn Mbaoma noted that the Rotary International theme for 2026/2027, "Create lasting impact" is a call for rotarians to build solutions that endure partnership that strengthen communities and legacies that outlive their tenure, pointing out that it challenges rotarians to think beyond projects and focus on transformation.

  "As we embark on this Rotary year, let us remain guided by Rotary's four way test and commitment to the principle of "Service above self". Let us strive to leave a legacy of compassion, excellence and meaningful service to humanity. I pledge to lead with transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and dedication. Together, we will shine like Stars.

   Our club will continue to deliver impactful projects across the seven areas of focus of Rotary International which guide our service including peace building and conflict prevention, diseases prevention and treatment, water, sanitation and hygiene, WASH, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, community economic development and supporting the environment These projects are not just categories, they are commitments, therefore, the club needs the collective strength of everyone to donate generously towards the projects", he emphasized.

   Rtn Mbaoma reminded non rotarians that there is no better club to join than Rotary, stressing that Rotary introduces  vaccine for polio eradication and takes care of the less privileged.


   In an interview with newsmen, a past president of Rotary Club of Owerri Sunrise, Rtn Emeka Nwokorie disclosed that installation in Rotary is an occasion to raise funds for the service projects to be executed by the club under the leadership of Rtn Callistus Mbaoma and expressed the hope that  their guests' generous donations to support the incoming president would enable him deliver on the service projects and make his presidency throughly outstanding.

  Some personalities were honoured on the occasion with Community Service Award in recognition of their numerous positive contributions to human and societal development, while new members were inducted into the club.
