Reps Want End to Rehabilitation of Criminals, Push Tougher Anti-Kidnapping Measures

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to stop rehabilitating criminals through de-radicalisation programmes, insisting that individuals involved in serious crimes should face the full weight of the law instead.


Lawmakers also urged authorities to completely discourage ransom payments to kidnappers and strengthen cooperation between security agencies, financial institutions and regulators to track and block ransom funds.


The House further recommended tighter monitoring of suspicious bank transfers, Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions and Bureau de Change operators, arguing that disrupting criminal finances is key to reducing kidnapping and terrorism.


The motion also calls for greater investment in financial intelligence systems to improve investigations and stop money laundering.
