Remi Tinubu Visits Imo as NASENI Skills Centre Opens to Boost Youth Empowerment

The First Lady of Imo State, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, on Tuesday played host to the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, during her stopover at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, ahead of official engagements in the state.


The visit underscored the growing collaboration between the Federal Government and Imo State on programmes aimed at promoting development and empowering citizens, particularly young people.


Barr. Uzodimma later joined Governor Hope Uzodimma at the commissioning of the NASENI Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Centre, a project facilitated by the Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District, Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, in partnership with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).


The centre is expected to provide vocational and technical training, equipping youths with practical skills that can enhance employability, encourage entrepreneurship and contribute to economic growth in the state.


Stakeholders say the initiative reflects increasing efforts to address youth unemployment by investing in skills development and innovation, rather than relying solely on conventional white-collar jobs.


As Nigeria continues to grapple with rising unemployment and economic challenges, many observers believe that well-equipped skills acquisition centres could play a significant role in preparing young people for opportunities in technology, manufacturing and small-scale enterprise.


However, questions remain about implementation, sustainability and access.
