The Chairman of Orlu Local Government Area, Pastor Chris Mbarie, has assured newly deployed staff of a conducive working environment while urging them to embrace diligence, discipline and commitment to public service.
Speaking during a meeting with the workers at the council headquarters, the chairman said peace had returned to the area and pledged to sustain policies that would encourage effective service delivery and economic growth.
He charged the staff to remain committed to their duties despite prevailing economic challenges and encouraged them to participate actively in the council's weekly Tuesday prayer sessions.
Director of Administration and General Services, Mrs. Ifeoma Ndukwu, also briefed the staff on new administrative directives from the Local Government Service Commission.
She explained that all legitimate workers would be captured in the council's nominal roll for proper identification and accountability, while every department would hold monthly performance meetings with reports submitted to her office.
She further reminded workers of the compulsory sign-in and sign-out attendance register aimed at improving discipline and productivity.
The council's Treasurer, Mrs. Vivian Elechukwu, urged the employees to obey constituted authority, maintain regular attendance and perform assigned duties faithfully to enhance efficiency in local government administration.
The meeting ended with assurances of cooperation between management and staff towards improving service delivery to residents of Olu Local Government Area.
Can stronger discipline and accountability at the local government level translate into better grassroots development?
