Orlu Council Boss Moves to Stop Community Crisis Ahead of Town Union Election

Fearing that political tensions could threaten Peace in Omazidika Autonomous Community, the Chairman of Orlu Local Government Area, Pastor Chris Mbarie, has stepped in with a strong warning against actions capable of causing division ahead of the community's town union election.


During a town hall meeting with stakeholders, Pastor Mbarie appealed to residents to put community interest above personal ambitions.


He warned that no society can experience meaningful development in an atmosphere of hostility and internal conflict.


Addressing members of the electoral committee, made up of village chairmen, the council chairman described their appointment as both an honour and a sacred responsibility.


He urged them to conduct a transparent, credible and peaceful election, noting that decisions taken today would influence the future development of the community.


Pastor Mbarie assured them of the support of his administration but warned that government would not tolerate violence, intimidation or any form of lawlessness before, during or after the election.


Earlier, he paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Columbus, to seek royal blessings and support for a peaceful electoral process.


Speaking on behalf of the community, Councillor Solomon Nwogaraku and Electoral Committee Chairman Charles Azudu thanked the chairman for his intervention and pledged to conduct a free and fair election.


The peace meeting comes amid increasing concern over community disputes in several parts of the state.
