Nigeria Expands Drone Warfare, Financial Intelligence to Intensify Fight Against Terrorism

Nigeria is deepening its counterterrorism strategy with a twin approach that combines advanced military technology and intelligence-driven financial investigations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks.


The development was disclosed during a security briefing at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in Abuja, where security officials outlined the country's evolving response to insurgency and banditry.


Responding during the question-and-answer session on behalf of the Directorate of Defence Information, Lieutenant Colonel Adamu said Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), popularly known as military drones, have become a critical asset in operations across the North-East and North-West.


According to him, the increasing deployment of drones has enhanced surveillance, intelligence gathering and precision operations against criminal elements, reducing risks to troops while improving operational effectiveness.


Security experts believe that beyond military action, disrupting the financial lifelines of terrorist organisations has become equally important in weakening their operational capabilities.


The renewed strategy signals a shift towards technology-driven warfare and intelligence-led operations as Nigeria seeks lasting solutions to insecurity.
