NDC Imo Chairman Urges Unity, Condemns Anti-Party Activities, Reaffirms Legitimate Party Leadership

The Imo State Chairman of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Barr. Reginald Uwakwe, has called on members of the party to reject rancour, anti-party activities, and every form of division, urging them instead to embrace peace, love, unity, and forgiveness in the collective pursuit of the party's vision for Nigeria.


Speaking during a strategic meeting with the party's State Executive Committee, Zonal Chairmen, Local Government Area Chairmen, Ward Chairmen, and Secretaries, Uwakwe emphasized that unity remains the party's greatest strength as it prepares for future political engagements.


According to him, members must remain committed to the party's shared objective of working towards the emergence of Peter Obi as the President of Nigeria.


The state chairman warned against rumour-mongering, describing it as an enemy of progress capable of creating unnecessary divisions within the party.


He urged party faithful to remain focused by holding regular meetings, strengthening grassroots structures, and embarking on courtesy visits to key stakeholders to foster harmony and ensure that all members work together with one purpose.


Uwakwe also reaffirmed the legitimacy of the party executives elected during the congresses held on May 1, 2, and 4, 2026, stressing that they emerged through a constitutional and transparent process.


He maintained that no individual or group has the authority to remove, replace, or suspend any duly elected executive outside the provisions of the party's constitution.


Calling for reconciliation among members, the NDC chairman encouraged those who had been offended to forgive, noting that forgiveness remains the foundation for lasting peace and sustainable progress within any political organization. He also appealed to members who may have offended others to seek forgiveness in the interest of unity and collective advancement.


Uwakwe further stressed that disciplinary measures would be taken against any member found engaging in anti-party activities, spreading hatred, character assassination, or any conduct capable of undermining the growth and stability of the party.


He emphasized the importance of respecting the party's chain of leadership, stating that Ward Chairmen should recognize their Local Government Area Chairmen as their leaders, Local Government Area Chairmen should accord the same respect to their Zonal Chairmen, Zonal Chairmen should recognize the State Chairman as their leader, while the State Chairman remains accountable and loyal to the National Chairman and national leadership of the party.


Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the party's Public Relations Officer and Publicity Secretary, Ayozie Uchechukwu Rowland, explained that the meeting was convened to address issues arising from the May 2026 congresses, which produced the current state leadership.


He reaffirmed that the NDC in Imo State remains united under the leadership of Hon. Barr. Reginald Uwakwe, insisting that the party has only one recognized leadership and no faction.


Rowland charged party executives to return to their respective zones, local government areas, and wards to intensify grassroots mobilization and promote the party's vision across the state.


He reiterated the party's belief that Peter Obi represents the kind of leadership Nigerians desire and urged members to continue sensitizing the public on the need to support his presidential aspiration.


The meeting concluded with renewed commitments from party leaders to strengthen internal unity, deepen grassroots engagement, and work collectively towards achieving the party's political objectives.
