The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has elected Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mrs. Onyeka Shola Badejo-Kusamotu as its new President following an online election widely commended for its transparency and credibility.

She defeated three other contestants, polling 12,317 votes, while her closest challenger, Latif Omoyemi Akangbe (SAN), secured 7,934 votes. A total of 26,184 lawyers participated in the exercise.

The election, conducted through a live online voting platform with real-time updates and demographic statistics, has been hailed by many members of the legal profession as another milestone in strengthening internal democracy within the association.

In her acceptance speech, the President-elect thanked members for their confidence, describing her victory as a collective triumph for lawyers committed to building a stronger, more inclusive and more effective Bar.

She pledged to work with members across the country in advancing the interests of the legal profession and promoting justice.

What should be the top priority for the new NBA President—judicial reforms, lawyers' welfare, or defending democracy?
