Market Fire Victims Receive Lifeline as Elders Donate Cash, Demand Government Intervention

Hope has been rekindled for victims of the recent market fire in Okigwe following a cash donation by the Okigwe Global Elders Leaders Forum to assist traders and support immediate recovery efforts.


Presenting the donation, members of the forum urged sons and daughters of Okigwe, irrespective of political or religious affiliation, to unite in helping affected families rebuild their lives.


The forum also appealed to the Imo State and Federal Governments to establish a functional fire service station in the area to minimise losses from future fire disasters.


Receiving the donation, the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Prince Obara, commended the elders for demonstrating compassion and assured them that all funds would be judiciously utilised.


President of the Market Association, Comrade Block Ebo, expressed gratitude to the donors while calling for urgent reconstruction of damaged shops to enable traders resume business.


Residents say the fire has left many families counting heavy losses, increasing calls for improved emergency response infrastructure.
