Imo Police Smash Kidnap Syndicates, Arrest 184 Suspects, Rescue Three Victims in Major Security Offensive

The Imo State Police Command says it has recorded one of its biggest operational breakthroughs in recent months, arresting 184 suspected criminals, rescuing three kidnapped victims, and recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition in a sustained intelligence-led offensive across the state.


Addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, said the operations, carried out over the last two months, dealt significant blows to criminal networks involved in kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery and sexual offences.


According to the police boss, one of the most significant breakthroughs came on July 6 when operatives stormed a suspected terrorist and kidnapping camp hidden deep inside the Egbema River Creek in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.


The raid followed the arrest of two alleged kidnap kingpins whose confessions reportedly led investigators to the camp.


Police said seven more suspected gang members were arrested during the operation, while officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, live ammunition, a human skull and assorted charms believed to have been used for criminal activities.


A follow-up operation in the Biakpa swamps reportedly uncovered another arms cache containing 346 rounds of live ammunition and seven high-calibre rifle magazines.


In total, police displayed two AK-47 rifles, locally fabricated firearms, magazines, 392 rounds of assorted ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, generators and other exhibits allegedly linked to criminal activities.


The Commissioner also disclosed the arrest of two suspects in separate cases involving the alleged sexual abuse of minors, assuring that investigations had been concluded and the suspects would be charged to court.


He commended residents for providing useful intelligence and urged continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
