Imo NAWOJ Delights NUJ Members with Free Drugs at July Congress

It was goodwill all the way at the July 2026 Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State Council, as members went home not just with resolutions, but with free drugs.


The State Chairman of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Imo Chapter, Mrs. Chizoba Opara, on Wednesday presented the leftover drugs from NAWOJ’s July Congress free medical outreach to NUJ members. 


Describing the gesture as a way of giving back, Mrs. Opara acknowledged NUJ as the “Parent Union” of NAWOJ and said the association remains committed to the welfare of all journalists in the State.


The Congress, held at the NUJ Press Centre Owerri, recorded a large turnout of Journalists from across print, broadcast and online media.


In his remarks, the Imo NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, called on Comrade Chris Ekweariri to formally appreciate NAWOJ on behalf of the Union.


Ekweariri, while receiving the drugs, described NAWOJ’s donation as “commendable and timely.”


“Every drug today is expensive. For NAWOJ not to think twice before giving these drugs out, it is quite commendable,” he said. 


He described the July congress as “unique — separated from every other thing but goodwill,” and also thanked students of Imo State University who participated in the congress.


Also speaking, Mrs. Opara expressed appreciation to Ramps Pharmaceuticals Company for supporting the outreach.  

“We thank Ramps Pharmaceuticals for this kind gesture. They have judiciously done justice to the drugs and made this outreach possible,” she said.


The drug distribution and goodwill messages added a humanitarian touch to the congress, with members applauding NAWOJ for extending its health intervention beyond its own fold.


The July congress ended with calls for greater unity, professionalism and welfare-driven initiatives among Journalists in the State.
