"Governor Uzodimma Has Empowered Thousands of Youths" — Deputy Governor Throws Weight Behind Football Talent Hunt

Imo State Deputy Governor, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, has declared Governor Hope Uzodimma one of Nigeria's most youth-friendly governors, saying thousands of young people in the state have benefited from employment, appointments and digital empowerment programmes.


She made the remarks while receiving a delegation of enterprising youths led by Mr. Nkechukwu Egbunine, organisers of a football competition designed to discover hidden talents across Imo State.


Lady Ekomaru praised the initiative, describing sports as a powerful platform for reducing youth unemployment, discouraging crime and opening doors to international opportunities.


According to her, the competition aligns perfectly with the Shared Prosperity agenda, which prioritises youth development through sports, entrepreneurship and digital innovation.


The Deputy Governor disclosed that over 60,000 Imo youths have already benefited from digital skills training under the state's Scale-Up Imo programme, positioning the state as one of Nigeria's emerging technology hubs.


She challenged Information Technology companies, corporate organisations and private investors to take advantage of the state's growing pool of digitally skilled young people by investing in innovation and job creation.


Lady Ekomaru also assured the organisers of government support and a peaceful atmosphere for the football tournament.


Earlier, leader of the delegation, Mr. Nkechukwu Egbunine, explained that the competition was conceived to discover gifted footballers and expose them to opportunities capable of transforming their lives.


The visit ended with the presentation of an official invitation to the Deputy Governor to attend the grand finale of the competition.
