 "Fix Our Road Now!" — Ahiara Junction Commuters, Traders Cry Out Over Slow Reconstruction

AHIARA, IMO STATE — Commuters and business owners along the critical Ahiara Junction road in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA are calling on the Imo State Government to urgently speed up the ongoing road reconstruction.

While residents praised Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration for initiating the project, growing frustration has set in due to what locals describe as an "apparent shortage of workers" on-site. The delay, combined with heavy rains and strong winds, has caused severe flooding, rendering major sections almost impassable.

"The reconstruction raised our hopes, but motorists are now forced to navigate dangerous, makeshift bypasses just to connect to the main road," shared commercial driver.

The flooding is also wrecking local livelihoods. A roadside food vendor, who claimed anonymity, revealed that rainwater routinely overflows into her business premises whenever it rains, halting operations. 

Meanwhile, local residents raised alarms over a major drainage pit at Ahiara Junction that has become completely clogged with sand, warning that urgent desilting is needed to prevent catastrophic flooding.

As a vital economic artery connecting Imo State to neighboring Abia State, thousands who rely on the corridor daily are begging the contractors to step up their pace.
