The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has called an urgent high-level stakeholders' meeting at the Government House in Awka, raising the alarm over the hidden disease burden affecting pregnant women and newborns in the state.

During the summit, which focused on the "triple elimination" of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, Hepatitis B, and Syphilis, the State AIDS Programme Coordinator, Dr. Tonia Mbagwu, dropped startling new data. Out of 85,802 pregnant women tested across the state, 20 tested positive for syphilis, while 117 out of 62,971 women tested positive for hepatitis.

Reacting to the data, Mrs. Soludo stressed that these life-altering conditions are completely preventable if caught early. She insisted that routine screening, early antenatal care, and strict follow-up compliance are the only ways to guarantee that newborns are given a healthy start at life.
