The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man identified as Nwali Nwibu for allegedly spreading false information claiming that bandits and suspected Fulani herdsmen had invaded a community in the State.


According to police authorities, investigations launched after the report went viral revealed that the claim was false.


The incident reportedly caused anxiety among residents before security agencies moved in to verify the information.


Police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu warned residents against sharing unverified reports capable of causing panic and disrupting public peace.


Authorities urged citizens to verify information before forwarding it on social media platforms.


The development has reignited debates over fake news and misinformation, which many observers say have become a major threat to public safety in the digital age.
