Abuja, June 28, 2026 — The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has postponed the maiden edition of the Women in Security (WINSEC) Summit & Awards 2026, shifting the event from its earlier scheduled date of Tuesday, June 30, to Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
The decision followed a meeting of the WINSEC 2026 Central Planning Committee in Abuja, where members reviewed what the association described as "issues of national importance" before resolving to adjust the date.
According to a press release jointly signed by NAWOJ National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim; National Secretary, Comrade Wasilah Ladan; and Assistant National Secretary and Head of Programmes at the NUJ National Secretariat, Abuja, Comrade Tita Onyebuchi Nze, the venue and all other arrangements for the event remain unchanged.
The association expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement may cause to invited guests, award recipients, sponsors, partners and other stakeholders, while assuring them that preparations for the event remain on course.
NAWOJ described the WINSEC Summit & Awards as the first initiative of its kind in Nigeria, stating that the event is designed to set a new benchmark for recognising excellence and promoting women's contributions in the security sector.
The association appealed for the understanding and continued support of stakeholders, expressing confidence that the rescheduled event would deliver a memorable and impactful experience when it holds on August 5.
