MBAISE, IMO STATE — The Mbaise Council of Traditional Rulers has issued an urgent security directive ordering youths across all communities to organize themselves and launch regular, comprehensive bush-combing operations to flush out uninvited occupants and criminal elements.

Speaking at an emergency world press conference, the Chairman of the Council, HRH Eze Mike Ndudirim Orji (Dimgba Amagbor Ihitte), alongside the Council’s Secretary, HRH Eze Cyril O. Uwaoma (PhD), Ohazurumee 1, Ude 2 of Lude Ahiara Autonomous Community, stated that the council would not take recent security intelligence lightly.

During the briefing, the traditional rulers highly commended the efforts of Governor Hope Uzodimma, noting that his administration has successfully battled security challenges since he assumed office. 
However, they acknowledged that despite the Governor's laudable efforts, insecurity has still continued to persist, creating a situation that now demands all hands to be on deck to watch surroundings and police the local environment.

To ensure total compliance with the new safety directives, the council has reached an agreement with various town unions to deploy town criers and all available communication channels to mandate weekly searches, emphasizing that no bush within the Mbaise nation must be left uncombed.

The traditional rulers stated that Mbaise possesses the necessary manpower to safeguard its territory and urged the youth to use their initiatives in handling every detail of their findings during the operations, declaring that the community does not live in bushes. They assured the youths that they have the serious and full backing of all major stakeholders of the Mbaise nation, both at home and in the Diaspora.

Concluding the briefing, Eze Uwaoma urged all autonomous communities to ensure their respective traditional rulers are fully integrated into the central council to maintain a strict unity of purpose as the area intensifies these local security measures.

The public declaration has, however, sparked mixed reactions among indigenes and stakeholders. Critics have faulted the approach, arguing that security operations should not be made public via a press conference as it tips off the targets. They contend that alerting bandits of an impending search only gives them time to temporarily flee or prepare a frontal attack against the unarmed youths, describing the public announcement as an ineffective move that yields no real results.

In a swift counter-reaction, proponents of the traditional rulers' action defended the briefing, clarifying that it was a necessary response to widespread rumors that Fulani herdsmen were being dropped on Mbaise soil. Supporters explained that the press conference followed internal security meetings with communities and was vital to cross every 't' and dot every 'i'. 

They emphasized that town criers have already been dispatched across communities, adding that if the announcement scares the intruders into fleeing, it achieves the desired goal since the community is not at war, and the bush combing will remain a continuous exercise to ensure people take necessary precautions.
