Imo Clergyman Charges Congregation to Defy Family Limitations in Midweek Service
A wave of shouts, tears and declarations filled the sanctuary last Wednesday as a popular Imo-based clergyman, Rev. Fr. Edeywork delivered a fiery message titled _“Steps to Succeed in New Establishments – Part 4”_, urging worshippers to break generational cycles and rewrite their family history.
Standing before a packed congregation, the minister opened with a prophetic charge: “As far as you see my face here, every Wednesday, you will not stop where your fire stops. You will not stop where your mother stops. You will not stop where your people used to stop. You are the one that will break the record.”
The declaration was repeated several times, each repetition drawing louder responses of “Amen” and “Power” from the crowd. He insisted that the same “blood” and “DNA” in him as a father in ministry was also running in the lives of his spiritual children, meaning the limits that stopped their parents, relatives, and community members would not stop them.
“That place your people get to and they stop. If you get there, you will keep moving,” he told the congregation. “You are the one that will show your family the best. You will show your people the next chapter.”
In a dramatic moment, he asked members to look at their neighbours “with red eye”, declaring that from that day the devil would see “red eye” in their eyes and would no longer be able to stop them the way he stopped others in their families. Worshippers were led to stand and confront “satan”, declaring that any place the enemy had stopped members of their family, his attempt would fail.
“I Am Your Father”
The clergyman, who claimed no other priest in Imo State had reached his current level in ministry, repeatedly affirmed his fatherhood over the congregation. “I am your father. If I am your father, say my father,” he directed, prompting a thunderous response of “My father, my father.” He told them, “Anybody that hurts you in your village, will bow before you one day,” prophesying a reversal of shame to honour.
Steps to Succeed: Patience, Excellence, Consistency, Courage
After the prophetic session, he returned to the teaching portion of the series, which he described as “a bullet that boosts life and destiny.” He reviewed the first three steps previously taught: Patience, Excellence, and Consistency, asking congregants to affirm, “I am blessed.”
He then introduced the fourth step: Courage. Explaining in Igbo, he said courage means “you won’t be sick, you won’t be mad.” Citing the Bible’s call to “be strong, be strong,” he said courage was essential because “success is not a straight line.”
“Some people think that success is a straight line. Say no. Success is not a straight line. Rather...” he said, before continuing with the message that many people elsewhere were longing for the kind of help and impartation he was giving his congregation.
Congregation Reacts The service, which forms part of a weekly Wednesday programme, ended with worshippers chanting “I am a record breaker. I am the limit” and “It is in my blood. It is in our blood.” Several members later testified that the message gave them renewed hope to push beyond the boundaries that had limited their parents and relatives.
The church has been running the “Steps to Succeed in New Establishments” series for four weeks, with each week focusing on practical and spiritual keys for progress in career, business, ministry and personal life.
As the minister put it: “This message today is going to take somebody.” For many in the congregation, Wednesday’s service may have been the push they needed to believe it.
