FG to Roll Out 10,000 Electric Tricycles in Massive Transport Overhaul

​ABUJA — The Federal Government has finalized plans to inject 10,000 electric tricycles into the Nigerian market by August 2026. The green energy initiative aims to drastically cushion public transportation pressures and modernize the country’s inner-city logistics network.


​Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima disclosed this development during a courtesy visit by the Transporters for Tinubu-Shettima 2027 advocacy group at the State House.


​According to an official statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), the initial phase of the deployment will be managed by the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC).


​"President Bola Tinubu has already approved the expansion of this initiative to all other geopolitical zones through their respective regional development commissions," Vice President Shettima stated.



​The Vice President emphasized that the administration remains laser-focused on converting Nigeria’s fragmented transit structure into a highly integrated logistics network. The vision includes linking shipping ports, expanded railways, inland waterways, and regional airports with clean-energy solutions, including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks and these incoming electric fleets.
