AHIAZU MBAISE, IMO STATE — A major leadership and security row is brewing in Umuihuocha Obohia Autonomous Community, following a scathing public clarification issued by the Community’s Eze-Elect, Nze Greatman Eze-Ndi-Eze Ugwuadi.
The royal father-to-be has raised the alarm over what he describes as an attempt by certain factions to create a "parallel security structure" capable of plunging the Community into chaos and division.
The controversy stems from a letter dated June 2, 2026, titled "Need to Harmonize the Umuihuocha Security Vigilante Network for Effective Operations and Supervision," which was circulated to select stakeholders by members of the Umuihuocha Security Committee.
Breaking his silence on the matter, Nze Ugwuadi expressed deep concern that a letter preaching "harmonization" could deliberately omit his official status. He made it clear that his emergence as Eze-Elect was the lawful outcome of a constitutional process conducted by the Umuihuocha Development Union (UDU), rooted in custom and tradition.
"This clarification is not made out of personal vanity," the Eze-Elect stated. "Rather, it is made in defence of constitutional order, institutional integrity, and respect for due process. Those who demand recognition for committees, offices, and structures must equally be prepared to recognize offices and positions that have emerged through lawful and constitutional procedures."
Turning to the substantive security issues, Nze Ugwuadi pointed out a major contradiction in the committee's actions. He noted that the Imo State Government has already established a lawful, State-backed Community Vigilante structure in Umuihuocha, which operates under the supervision of State Security Agencies.
The Eze-Elect questioned the true motives behind introducing a new list and arrangement under the guise of "harmonization."
The Eze-Elect insisted that if security were the true priority, stakeholders would support and strengthen the existing Imo State Vigilante and Homeland Security framework, rather than creating confusion.
Insisting that the Community's most urgent task is the peaceful completion of the Ezeship succession process—not the multiplication of Committees—the Eze-Elect has petitioned top-tier authorities.
The strongly-worded clarification has been officially copied to His Excellency, the Governor of Imo State, the Commissioners for Local Government and Homeland Security, the DSS, the Commissioner of Police, the NSCDC, and all Local Village Heads.
"The future of Umuihuocha cannot be built on parallel structures, selective recognition of authority, or endless controversy," Ugwuadi warned. "History will judge us not by the positions we claimed, but by whether we defended the truth."

The concern is not about supporting security. Every responsible stakeholder wants Umuihuocha to be secure. The real issue is whether efforts are being directed toward strengthening the already existing Government-recognized vigilante structure or toward creating alternative structures that may generate divided authority and conflicting loyalties within the community.
Security functions best under a clear chain of command, recognized authority, and legal supervision.
2. On Security:
Should communities form independent committees to "harmonize" security, or should they strictly stick to state-government-approved vigilante structures?
Communities can establish support committees to assist security operations, mobilize resources, and encourage community participation. However, operational security structures should remain within the framework approved by law and supervised by the relevant security authorities.
The safest and most sustainable approach is to strengthen and support the Government-established vigilante architecture already operating under the Imo State Homeland Security framework.
3. On Leadership:
Was it right for the Security Committee to address the Eze-Elect as a regular stakeholder, or is this a sign of political bias?
Reasonable people may differ on this issue. However, if a person has emerged through a constitutionally recognized Ezeship process and is publicly acknowledged as Eze-Elect pending final government formalities, then respect for institutional processes would ordinarily require that such status be acknowledged in official communications touching on community affairs.
Recognition of constitutional outcomes promotes stability and respect for due process.
4. The Way Forward:
What is the best way to restore peace and unity to Umuihuocha Obohia?
The way forward is simple:
• Respect the Constitution of Umuihuocha.
• Respect lawful institutions and due process.
• Support the successful completion of the Ezeship succession process.
• Strengthen the Government-recognized security architecture.
• Avoid parallel structures and competing authorities.
• Promote dialogue instead of confrontation.
• Ensure transparency and accountability in all community matters.
Above all, stakeholders must place the collective interest of Umuihuocha above personal ambition, factional loyalty, and political calculations.
When truth, law, and unity work together, peace naturally follows.
